Although Owego's lacrosse program is only a few years old, this year looks promising. With an 8-10 record last year, the team has been improving year after year. Although Kirk Blackman, Dan Deemie, Mike Devan and Marc Gilli have graduated and moved on, new players are stepping up to follow in their footsteps. Dan Deemie was a key player last year with 20 assits and 31 goals and will be impossible to replace. Nick Spatola led the team with 42 goals last year as a sophmore, followed closely by Schmonsees, with 30. Goalie Anthony Cerretani has always been a part of the power behind the team, blocking almost 70% on average. Owego looks to be as strong defensively as well. Both Matt Luhrs and Mike Davis were Section 4 division II all league defensemen last year, helping to earn Luhrs a scholarship for lacrosse at Binghamton University, along with teammate Ryan Schmonsees. With arugably the strongest team yet, the team has the potential to do anything....Good luck guys!

Corning West runs off with win over Owego
BY STAFF REPORTS
Press and Sun Bulliten
Earlier season practices helped Corning West get off on the right foot Tuesday with a 12-6 non-league season-opener at Owego. The game was a rematch of the Section 4 Class B championship, which West also won.
The Vikings, who have practiced on turf, capitalized on an uptemp offense in the first half, resulting in many easy goals. "They fastbreaked us to death and seemed able to convert on every mistake we made," Owego coach Chris Mahon said. "We need to learn from those mistakes, and that will come with more time on the field."
By the time Owego was able to slow the game down by spreading their offense, a win was out of reach with three Vikings tallying three goals in the game.
West's Jarrett Moffitt and Owego's Ryan Schmonsees each had three goals and two assists to lead their respective teams.

WESTHILL 13, OWEGO 3
Offensive problems in the first half led to a 13-3 defeat for Owego (0-2) in a non-league game vs. Westhill at Cicero-North Syracuse. Westhill led 5-0 at halftime, the second time the Indians were held scoreless in the first half.
"We couldn't get anything going on offense," Owego coach Chris Mahon said. "They had the ball for almost the whole game. In the third quarter, we got desperate with trying to get the ball that we actually gave them more opportunities when we made turnovers."

Lacrosse: Forks' defense holds Owego
BY STAFF REPORTS
Goalie Juan Mendoza's 20 saves and a last-minute, man-down defensive stand allowed Chenango Forks to hold off visiting Owego 10-9 Friday in a Section 4 Conference boys lacrosse opener.
With 50 seconds remaining, the Indians gained a man-up opportunity because of a Tim Obranski one-minute slashing penalty, giving them a player advantage through regulation.
Owego's best scoring opportunity came on a Ryan Schmonsees' shot after a Nick Spatola pass. The shot deflected off a Forks defender who was in front of the goal, then the ball was cleared upfield.
Junior midfielder Pat Hamlin scored the game-winning goal, making it 10-6 with 49 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Nick Mirabito got his seventh assist on the play.
Owego scored three times in the fourth quarter on goals by Mike Davis (8:52), Spatola (4:02) and Jesse Demase (3:03).
Steve Tronovitch and Ben Larsen scored three goals apiece to lead the Blue Devils' attack.
