Girls Lacrosse: Walter's 5 second-half goals rally Owego past Corning West for win

Kate Walter scored all five of her goals in the second half, including the game-winner, as Owego rallied for an 11-9 victory at Corning West in a Section 4 Girls Lacrosse Conference match Monday.  

After Corning West took a 9-8 lead with 5:06 left in the game, Owego (4-4) scored three goals in a 25-second span.

Walter tied the score at 9 on a goal with 1:37 left, then gave Owego a 10-9 lead just 14 seconds later when she tallied her fifth goal of the game.

Erica Hare, who also had five goals, scored with 1:12 to give the Indians a two-goal lead.

Kendra Howe made 18 saves for Owego.

Karen Sonner and Niki Frunzi each had three goals for Corning West.

Kristen Sotak's goal with 1:20 remaining broke an 11-all match as Maine-Endwell defeated host Owego in Section 4 Lacrosse Conference play.

In the first half, a yellow card against an Owego player gave Maine-Endwell a one-man advantage for three minutes. In that span, the Spartans scored four times to tie the match at 7.

Owego's late touch too much for JC

Juniors Erika Hare and Kate Walters combined to score the last five Owego goals as the Indians edged Johnson City 15-13 in a Section 4 Lacrosse Conference girls match Monday at JC's Green Field.   Owego scored twice to break a 12-all match. Hare notched the winning goal, making it 14-12 with seven minutes remaining. She won a draw and scored unassisted.
After JC closed to one on a goal by Natale Marusich, Walters scored her seventh goal of the match. She had a team-high eight points and six draw controls.  JC's Elise Charlier had six goals and an assist. She had three of the team's first four goals, and JC trailed 7-6 at the half.  Owego (3-2) beat JC (1-8) for the second time this season.

Girls Lacrosse: Second-half scoring burst powers M-E over Owego

Maine-Endwell overcame a two-goal halftime deficit with eight unanswered goals to open the second half and rally for Friday's 15-9 Section 4 girls lacrosse win at Maine-Endwell.  

Owego led 7-5 at halftime, but M-E's Jenna Sanzone scored two goals in the first 3 1/2 minutes of the second half to tie it. Brittany Price scored for an 8-7 lead, and the Spartans (4-3) boosted the lead to 13-7 before Owego got on the board again.

Emily Cummings, an eighth-grader, had nine saves in the first half to keep M-E in the game. She finished with a 15 saves.

Kristin Brady had six goals and an assist as Binghamton beat visiting Owego, 11-8, in a Section 4 Girls Lacrosse Conference match Monday.   Lannon Foley added three goals and an assist for Binghamton, which never trailed after leading 4-3 at halftime.
Kate Walter had five goals and an assist for Owego.
